John Rawlings for Vogue - March 15, 1943

You may not have heard of David Weidman, but if you were conscious any time after 1960, you’re certainly familiar with his work.  Weidman began as an animator, painting backgrounds for Hannah-Barbara cartoons in LA in the 1950′s, setting the look and style of cartoons of that era.  Eventually he went to work for himself, dabbling in media as varied as printmaking, ceramics, font design, painting and cartooning, and eventually opened a gallery and framing store in Los Angeles.  His wife Dorothy got him to begin silk-screening after they first glimpsed a new tract-home community in Long Beach and realized how many walls would need pictures.  An artist AND an entrepreneur!

One of my new favorite things is a series of products called Dayna Decker Botanika, introduced to me by Terry at Bellissimo in Sun Valley.  They make a great gift (for yourself, or others if you must) not only because of their beautiful packaging, but also because of their fragrance and formula.  My favorite is the moisturizer, which is a luxe and fragrant gel that feels like a million bucks as it glides over and settles into your skin. I can also vouch for the perfume and bath gel (divine!) and am anxious to add the candle and diffuser to my arsenal–a chic one-two punch of fragrant botanical ambiance.
